Symbian becomes Open Source and Free
The source code for the ten-year old Symbian platform will be completely open source and available for free starting Thursday. The transition from proprietary code to open source is the largest in software history, claims the Symbian Foundation.
Nokia reveals new Symbian user interface built on Qt
Nokia today let loose on their Symbian S^4 concept. More of a proposal and call for feedback allowing users and developers to have a chance to share their two cents worth. The user interface concept is a complete overhall, and thank goodness for that. The platforms apps will all be redesignd, reorganized and rearranged to tap the latest graphics capabilities of Symbian devices.
Nokia Demos New Symbian OS With Multi-touch
Far from dropping Symbian it appears that Nokia has new found love for it. At the company’s ‘Capital Market Day’ for investors, the Finns showed off concepts for a complete rehash of the flagging mobile OS and they do look mighty impressive.

Nokia releases Qt 4.6 - Symbian and Maemo support
Qt 4.6 was released by Nokia this morning. This is the first full release version of Qt to natively support Symbian and Maemo 6. Also released today is the second technology preview for Maemo 5, which enables (partial) common development between Maemo and Symbian for the first time.
Rumor: Nokia Dropping Symbian Also For The E Series In Favor Of Maemo
Now it seems like that’s happening sooner than we thought or Nokia wants to admit.
